  • Somerton is a rural village, and thus public transport is limited however there is an hourly bus service to Wells, Glastonbury, Yeovil and Taunton.
  • The nearest train stations are Castle Cary (approximately 20 minutes drive), Yeovil Pen Mill or Yeovil Junction (approximately 25 minutes drive).
    • There are local taxi services that have accessible taxis if required, but they require advance booking. Please ask at the time of booking.

Arrival by Car & Parking

  • The White Hart is easily accessible from the B3151 or B3153 and lies due east of the M5 and due north of the A303.
  • There is no dedicated car park at The White Hart however there are plenty of FREE short and long stay car spaces in Somerton and within close proximity to the pub.
  • There is parking available opposite the pub with a maximum of one hour. There are unrestricted spaces in the car park around Cox’s Yard and on Broad Street within an easy walk.
  • If you require assistance of any kind, please just ask. We are happy to help with wheelchair pushing or carrying luggage.
  • There are no steps throughout the bar or restaurant and there is a disabled toilet on the ground floor at the back of the restaurant, easily accessible for wheelchairs.

Main Entrance

  • Please enter the pub through the main door on the high street below the Stag. Please do ask a member of staff to hold the doors open for easier disabled access if required.
  • There are no steps or impediments into the restaurant from this direction.
  • There is also an entrance into the rear of the bar round the back of the pub although this has a small step and is not ideal for
    disabled access.
  • Both front and rear entrances are open during our usual trading hours 0900 – 2300 – see website or call for up to date information.

Public Areas

  • All the public areas at The White Hart are on the ground floor.
  • Once through the main two doors there are no further doors throughout the interior of the ground floor.
  • There are no further steps throughout the ground floor.
  • All doors and corridors are wide enough for a wheelchair.
  • The flooring is solid wood throughout, with rugs in the main entrance.
  • There is a toilet suitable for wheelchair users on the ground floor towards the back of the restaurant.

Grounds and Gardens

  • We have a seated garden area at the back of the pub and a terrace area at the back of the bar and alongside the restaurant.

  • The path leading up to the terrace is sloped and suitable for wheelchair access.

Bedrooms

  • There are 8 en suite bedrooms, all are located on the first floor. All rooms are accessed via a staircase.
  • Two of the rooms (1 & 2) have a step between the corridor and the bedroom. Five of the rooms (1,2,3,5 & 7) have a step between the bathroom and bedroom.
  • Assistance dogs, such as Guide Dogs, are welcome to stay in the rooms.

Unfortunately, as The White Hart is a very old, listed building, full wheelchair access to the upper floors is not possible as the only access is via a staircase. Unfortunately, the design and age of the building does not allow any space for the provision of a lift or dedicated and fully accessible bedrooms. Please do call if you would like any advice.
