Travelling with your pooch? Then stay with us for the perfect dog-friendly break! At The White Hart, we welcome muddy paws with open arms. We are super-dog-friendly, and our four-legged friends are welcome in the large bar, outside terrace, garden and all our super-stylish bedrooms.

Our full restaurant menu is available in the bar and outside areas, so you can tuck into our trademark delicious West Country food with your dog happily at your side. Pampered pooches staying overnight get their very own goody bag.

Somerton is a fantastic market town, and there are lots of great local walks on the doorstep to get tails wagging.

There is a £15 supplement per stay for dogs.

Arrival and departure

Check in is from 3pm but it’s always possible the room will be available earlier, so please call us and check. Departure is from 11am although we are happy to leave it until later if there are no incoming guests for the room.
Please note that the hotel does not operate a 24 reception desk, so if you plan to arrive after 10pm please call the hotel in advance so they can arrange access.


  • There is no dedicated car park at The White Hart however there are plenty of FREE short and long stay car spaces in Somerton and within close proximity to the pub.
  • There is parking available opposite the pub with a maximum of one hour. There are unrestricted spaces in the car park around Cox’s Yard and on Broad Street within an easy walk.

Extra beds can be accommodated in the largest rooms only for children up to 12 years of age at a cost of £20 including breakfast. These must be requested in advance through the hotel because there is a limited number available.

Cots are available for children up to 2 years of age free of charge. The smaller rooms cannot accommodate a cot.


Dogs are welcome in all our rooms at a charge of £15 per dog per stay. However, if you are bringing a dog then they must not be left alone in the bedroom/bathroom at any time unless they are in a secure crate. Your dog can accompany you to the bar and outside terrace or large garden, where we serve our full restaurant menu, so they need not spend any time without you! Any damage caused to the paintwork or furnishings by a dog left unaccompanied will be chargeable.

Cancellation T&Cs

Any Advanced Purchase Early Booker rates must be pre-paid in full at the time of the booking and are non-refundable and non-transferable. For all other bookings we ask that they are cancelled or amended before midnight 7 full days prior to arrival date to avoid a penalty charge of the full stay. Payment for the stay will be taken 7 full days before arrival date.
We ask that bookings of 3 or more rooms are cancelled or amended 14 days prior to arrival date to avoid cancellation charges.

Please note we do not pay commission to 3rd party agents who book direct with the hotel and/or with whom there is no signed, written contract.


Full payment for your booking will be taken 7 full days prior to arrival date, in line with the cancellation policy.

Public Transport
Somerton is a rural village, and thus public transport is limited however there is an hourly bus service to Wells, Glastonbury, Yeovil and Taunton.

By car
The White Hart is easily accessible from the B3151 or B3153 and lies due east of the M5 and due north of the A303.

By train
The nearest train stations are Castle Cary (approximately 20 minutes drive), Yeovil Pen Mill or Yeovil Junction (approximately
25 minutes drive).

There are local taxi services that have accessible taxis if required, but they require advance booking. Please ask at the time of booking.


The White Hart is a traditional coaching inn located in the centre of Somerton, close to the edge of the Somerset Levels and Glastonbury. The White Hart offers a public bar, restaurant, garden seating and 8 first floor en suite bedrooms. We want all our guests to feel welcome and to have a relaxing visit. Where possible facilities are in place to accommodate all our visitors but the historic nature of the building means that there are some limitations to what we can offer as outlined in the following paragraphs.
