Explore

Somerton is an ancient Saxon Town and was the possession of the Saxon kings, during which time it was sparsely populated. It was only during the Roman period that the town grew bigger and bigger and eventually became the capital of Wessex.

The White Hart sits plum in the centre facing onto Market Place with its lovely Buttercross, the old Town Hall, alms houses and the Old Courthouse (now The Somerset Guild of Craftsmen and Courthouse Gallery). There are some great antique and vintage stores and a fabulous chocolate shop.

The walking in the countryside around Somerton is glorious and we hold a number of walking guidebooks, leaflets and OS maps behind the bar for guests to consult or borrow.

And don’t miss Ace Arts with an inspiring contemporary art gallery and education charity located opposite The White Hart with plenty of tempting gifts to buy.
